" POLITICIANS WILL ONLY START SEEING THE LIGHT WHEN THEY BEGIN TO FEEL THE HEAT"
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics
is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." - Plato (427-327 BC
)
Unless the people retain sufficient control over those entrusted with the powers of their government,
these will be perverted to their own oppression, and to the perpetuation of wealth and power in the individuals
and their families selected for the trust. ~ Thomas Jefferson, 1812

Al Schmidt Should Be Removed From the
Planning Commission
Bad Apple Councilpersons Infect and Encourage Embarrassing
Bad Faith Behavior of Commission's Chairpersons.
Why is Chairperson, Al Schmidt Resisting Mayor's
Efforts To Bring Light To Our Government Operations?

In his public comments before the city council, Planning Commission Chairman Al Schmidt had a definition he thought fit the Mayor's request that Planning Commission chairperson and other commission chairpersons provide a written report to the city. The word Schmidt used was "prerogative". He stated that it was not within the Mayor's "prerogative" to ask for such a thing.

We will get to the absurdity of commissions operating without any written
report in a just a minute, but first we have a word and a definition for Chairman Schmidt.

Obstinate, noun
-Synonyms 1. mulish, obdurate, unyielding, unbending, intractable, perverse, inflexible, refractory, pertinacious. See stubborn.

We add to this, childish behavior. Can you imagine a grown man digging around in the dictionary in preparation for a presentation at the city council to tell the Mayor he will not reduce his committee's business to writing so the Mayor and the rest of the citizens could know what the commission voted for, against and why?

Requesting a minute type report is a perfectly reasonable request and is done in many other grown up cities in the Coachella Valley.  There can be only one reason why Chairman Schmidt's ego will not let him follow such a simple request. He is not about to honor the Mayor's seat and do anything the Mayor asks him to do.

This is a personal affront by Schimdt to the Mayor. But it is also a
personal affront to the people that elected the Mayor and the city council.
The chairpersons of the committees of our city should comply with reasonable requests or step down from their positions. A simple written reports is a reasonable request.  The report allows the rest of the citizens including the Mayor who can not possibly attend every commission meeting to know what was heard, voted on, approved, denied, etc.

Al Schmidt should be made to turn in his homework or he should be expelled as the child he presented himself to be at Tuesday night's city council meeting when he publicly insulted the Mayor and the rest of us by resisting a simple request that would keep the citizens informed.
